I keep in mind things you've said about the harness lines in previous videos of yours as well. So very helpful as always! One thing I'm having trouble with is my harness keeps sliding up and turns into a bra! It must mean I sit a lot on the harness lines instead of pulling, right?

why would this be better than a regular tack?

I haven't sailed for a while. Off injured as usual..but I think when I'm really overpowered I use my front hand really close to the mast and push against the boom to avoid the sail from taking over?? smashing back into me? It's been a while since I've done it but that's what I remember. I know that's in 'extreme" conditions but that seems to be the opposite of what you're saying?

Nice video -- I "know" almost all of it just through trial-and-error by now, but, as always, one or two new things come up! The tip about putting your back thumb on the rear harness line to more easily unhook is one I might have to try. Sometimes, hooking in and unhooking is not easy, especially when I set my boom chin height or higher. The thumb on the harness line trick could be really helpful for some of those fall-in-backwards incidents when the sail comes on top of you and you are underwater...will have to see. Being able to move the harness lines is so nice. I only figured out that you can keep them very loose and they stay put when they need to just recently.

Great vid as always. I’m just getting back into windsurfing after an almost 20 year break and your guides help me a lot. I will go right ahead and loosen my harness lines, I agitate found it impossible to adjust them while riding. In the beginning when you say your height: 5 foot 8 would be 173cm, not 180. I guess the 180 cm are correct for you, given that you say your weight in kg and not the made up fairy tale units ;)

nice smal tings to implement in my sailing. Do you have anything on how to close the sail properly when i want to go realy fast? when is it fully closed? paralell? and when the wind goes down in the middel of a run on strong wind. how to get back up without steering to much upwind

I find it almost impossible to jibe in overpowered conditions and having a really choppy/wavy water. It's just a disaster from the moment I decide to jibe. I just cannot do it... 🥴

I can see the point of quick release for 8 m2 or bigger sails. You don't want to find yourself under the middle of 8 m2 in dark water. Head for the exit before it comes down on top of you. Half jokingly ; I had a near death experience once, wasn't even hooked in but not sure which way to swim, must have gone the length of it. Ok feel for the battens but not so easy with gloves on. Carry a knife to slash the sail- ok i'm joking.

This was, and sometimes still is, my weakest point. I really have to talk to myself out loud when I tack or jibe to remind me to counterbalance. The stronger the wind, the more I talk out loud when on the board 🤣. It’s awkward 😬

Off the subject but the control trips you give - pushing with your front hand etc. Do they work with cammed sails?

Great uphaul tip. I often find my uphaul gets snagged on a footstrap when I'm waterstarting. It's very annoying. I'll try the loop idea next time there's enough wind for small gear.

I love the Enigma carbon booms from Severne. Like you I like the narrow grip. I was really disappointed when they changed the end on the 160-210 to a wave end which isn't suitable for an adjustable outhaul. I had to buy the next size up which is heavier and wider grip. I avoid using it because of that. I'm not looking forward to when my favourite boom dies..( still going strong at 7 years old).. Mmm might have to look at point 7 when the time comes.

Thanks, Cookie! As usual, a lot of good information squeezed in-between the main topic. Lines, uphaul, adjustable outhaul, etc. Do you put the adjustable outhaul on both sides? I only have mine on one side but it really helps on the bigger sails.

Nice boom! To my mind booms don't get nearly enough attention when talking about kit - it's all about boards and sails and fins (fins??). But the boom is your immediate connection to the sail - it is through the boom that you feel the wind, the waves, everything. Furthermore, generally one will cover you for most/all sail sizes you might want to ride, you won't outgrow it as you progress, and likely won't break or wear out. That's where you should put your money! If I could take only one item of my own to the beach, and had to make do with the rest, it would be the boom (Goya Carbon Skinny - truly a work of art).

This was really good. Dozens of good bits of info in 30 minutes. Watched it twice.

I am Using 142 litters windsurf slalom foilready Partick(top class) windsurf board, with most simple and cheap Gong foil that bought 400 euros ,but now it is full with 200EURO such foils second hand(pretty cheap) front wing is 2200 square santimeters ( I weight 110 kilogram). Just Plug in foil and move from 9 square meters sail(my homespun is not very windy) to 7 square meters with foil. Nice and light and small sail for big and high guy like me. Already have 10 foiling sessions. 2 hours Pure fun per session. Always wear Long neoprene pants and boots. At beginning foil cuts legs like crazy!!!

I took a clinic from the great US instructor Andy Brandt. I was working on the foil jibe, which is my nemesis. Andy noticed that I wasn't keeping my body weight on the inside of the jibe radius. He also noticed that I wasn't looking ahead to where I wanted to go. He said that the windsurfing jibe is like riding a bike. When you turn your bike you lean into the turn, not away from it. He also said that that when you turn your bike, you don't look down at the handlebars, you look ahead to where you want to turn. Everybody who rides a bike knows that. Once I corrected those mistakes, I started making my foil jibes, or at least a much higher percentage of them.

I agree with practise makes permanent. I learnt back in the days before You tube and didn't have lessons. The last few years I've been going back and retraining my gybes . It's hard if you've been doing something for 30 years and it's ingrained. Much easier to learn properly straight up.
